United Announce Kagawa Signing

Record English Premier League champion have officially announced that Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa has put pen to paper on a four year deal with The Red Devils, sealing his switch to The Theater of Dreams from the German champions Borussia Dortmund. Kagawa had long been on the radar of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and he was personally present at the final of the DFB Pokal between Bayern Munich and Dortmund and he witnessed Kagawa orchestrate a rout of the Bavarians with a 5-2 victory for The Yellow Gold Brigade.

However, his impressive performances for Dortmund over the last few seasons after he switched to Germany from his native side Cerezo Osaka aroused the attention of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as well as Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho but Sir Alex and United managed to win the race for his signature because it was the childhood dream of The Blue Samurai midfielder to play for The Red Devils, having grown up idolizing Stretford End legend David Beckham. However, whether Kagawa will be able to play for United this season depends on the FA and UK VISA Department granting him a work permit. As far as the stringent rules to get a work permit in the United Kingdom are concerned, which requires a player to play in at least 75% of the last competitive matches for his country, Kagawa falls well short of the mark. However, Manchester United could file for a special talent rule, by means of which they secured the work permit for Javier Hernandez of Mexico a couple of years back.

Kagawa becomes the second signing of the season for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson who is looking to regain the title from the noisy neighbors Manchester City after snapping up teenage wonder kid Nick Powell for a fee of around £ 4 million from second division side Crewe Alexandria. United lost the English Premier League title to City in the final minutes of the season with both teams finishing on 89 points and only City’s superior goal difference earning them the title in a cruel manner.

Sir Alex had been looking to sign a creative midfielder for the team for the last two years, and has been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Luka Modric of Croatia. However, if the tabloid reports are to be believed, the Croatian is more or less certain to ditch a move to Old Trafford in order to join up with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

Ferguson has already identified Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara as an alternative if he misses out on Modric. However, if the reports coming in from Spain are to be believed, Barcelona are unwilling to part with one of the most talented young players in the roster at the moment and Thiago is also not willing to push for a move away from the Camp Nou in spite of falling down the pecking order after the arrival of Cesc Fabregas last season.
